Lincolnshire born full back Bert Duffield made his senior debut in an FA Cup tie in January 1920 for Castleford Town in a 2-0 victory over Hednesford Town. He also played in the next round when they narrowly lost to Second Division Bradford Park Avenue. In July he signed for Leeds United and he made his Football League debut in Leeds’ inaugural match at Port Vale that August being ever present during Leeds’ first season as a League club. Indeed in his first 5 seasons as a Leeds United player he rarely missed a match, playing 38 times as they were crowned Second Division Champions in 1923-24 and 39 matches the following season in the First Division. However he lost his place in autumn 1925 and in November moved to Bradford Park Avenue after 211 Leeds appearances. At Park Avenue he played 55 times through to May 1928 before retiring.
