Glasgow born inside forward Frank Doyle had played for Airdrieonians since 1920 having signed for them from Vale of Clyde, and he played alongside the young Hughie Gallacher in what was a golden period for Airdrie in the 1920’s. He was sold to Fulham in the summer of 1923, and made his Cottagers debut against South Shields that August in the Second Division, scoring 9 goals in 26 games that season but only playing 5 more games in 1924-25. Released he was signed by Celtic in March 1926, and made his Hoops debut on August 28th in a 6-1 league victory at Queen’s Park. Although never a regular first team selection he scored 3 goals in 21 Celtic games and was never on the losing side, although they lost the 3 consecutive games after he was finally dropped from the team in February 1928. He also subsequently had a spell at Ayr United in 1929.
