Edinburgh born centre forward Billy Dow started his football career with Vale of Grange in 1903 before joining Leith Athletic in 1904. He moved south of the border to join First Division club Bury in May 1905, making his Football League debut against Sheffield Wednesday that September, scoring in a 2-2 draw. He scored 8 goals in 17 appearances for Bury but joined Southern League Tottenham Hotspur at the end of the season, scoring 3 goals in 9 Southern League appearances for Spurs during 1906-07, but in February 1907 he emigrated to The United States.
