Description

Seaham Harbour, County Durham born right half Tommy Dixon began his football career with Murton Colliery Welfare in 1918 and after a trial with Sunderland he joined Second Division Clapton Orient in 1919, making his Football League debut at Rotherham County in March 1920. He broke into the first team on a regular basis from February 1921 and established himself as an important member of their 1920’s team that held its own in the Second Division. In eight seasons at Millfields Road, Dixon scored 15 goals in 244 games, being ever present in their 1924-25 campaign, before a move to Southend United in the summer of 1927.

In seven seasons at The Kursaal he was again rarely out of the team, and was again an ever present in The Shrimpers’ 1928-29 campaign, making 265 appearances with 7 goals scored before retiring, already in his mid 30’s, at the end of the 1933-34 season after a career that saw him play over 500 games.
