Glasgow born inside right or centre forward Willie Curle began his football career with Rutherglen Glencairn from where he was signed by First Division club Woolwich Arsenal in May 1908, making his Football League debut in a defeat at Notts County that September. He returned to the first team for two further matches, both also lost, against Bradford City and Manchester United in December, but he wasn’t retained at the season end and returned to Scotland, signing for Scottish League Second Division club Cowdenbeath in the summer of 1909.

Curle had two successful seasons with The Miners, scoring 11 goals in 25 matches in both, but moved to Abercorn in late 1912 after 23 goals in 57 appearances. After 7 appearances for Abercorn, he soon moved on to Albion Rovers, where he scored 4 goals in 9 matches, subsequently finishing his career with spells at Bathgate and Renton.
