He signed for First Division Middlesbrough in March 1929 after 5 goals in 24 appearances for the Deepdale club, playing five seasons at ‘Boro,  signing for Bolton Wanderers in October 1933 after 30 goals in 105 appearances. He scored 4 times in 27 matches for The Trotters but only played three times as they were promoted as Second Division runners up in 1934-35, moving to Hull City in the summer of 1935, staying one season at Boothferry Park where he scored 12 goals in 30 appearances.

Cameron joined Queen’s Park Rangers in the close season of 1936 but only made 8 appearances, scoring once, before moving on to Rotherham United a year later, where he spent 1937-38 without making a first team appearance for The Millers before his retirement from professional football.
