Sittingbourne, Kent born centre forward Leo Cassell had served during the First World War in the 1st Kent Battalion of the Royal West Kent Regiment and started his football career after the War with Gillingham, making his Football League debut against Queen’s Park Rangers at the end of January 1922, scoring his only goal in five appearances for The Gills over the next month in their 5-2 victory over Norwich City on 11th February. He joined Wimbledon at the start of March 1922 and subsequently joined Canterbury Waverley in 1930 before his retirement.
