Dalmuir, Dunbartonshire born inside forward Sandy Campbell began his football career with Old Kilpatrick in 1913 and played for Glasgow Ashfield in 1914. After the First World War he joined amateur Scottish League club Queen’s Park in 1919, making his Scottish League debut at Heart of Midlothian that August, playing 5 times for The Spiders before he moved to England to join First Division Oldham Athletic the following summer.
He made his Football League debut against Middlesbrough in September 1920, scoring a brace in a 3-3 draw. He stayed two seasons at Boundary Park scoring 6 goals in 37 appearances for The Latics before moving to Swansea in the 1922 close season, but he only played 7 times for The Swans, scoring twice, before returning to Oldham Athletic for the 1923-24 season. He scored 2 further goals in 4 more appearances for Oldham in the autumn of 1923 before moving to non league Mossley in 1924.
