Description

Glengarnock, Ayrshire born centre forward Jack Calder started his football career with Glengarnock YMCA in 1929 joining Dalry Thistle in 1930, from where he signed for Leicester City in 1931, making his Football League debut at Grimsby Town in September 1931 in what proved his only appearance for The Foxes. He returned to Scotland and played for Falkirk in 1932, moving to St Johnstone in 1933 and to Dunfermline Athletic in 1934, then joining Morton in 1935 before a return to England with First Division Bolton Wanderers in 1936. In two seasons at Burnden Park he scored 11 times in 27 appearances before joining Barnsley in 1938, where his 5 goals in only 9 appearances in 1938-39 helped them win the Third Division (North) Championship. In 1939 he returned to Morton and his career was effectively ended by the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939.
