Description
Aberdeen born centre forward Jimmy Burnett joined hometown professional club Aberdeen in 1901 from Victoria United whom he joined in August 1895, and joined Southern League club Portsmouth a year later, scoring 22 goals in 29 appearances for Pompey, however after a single season he returned to Scotland with Dundee in the 1904 close season. After a single season he joined Second Division Grimsby Town in the summer of 1905, making his Football League debut at Chesterfield that September, scoring 13 goals in 54 appearances for Grimsby before he joined Brighton & Hove Albion in May 1907. A year later, after 2 goals in 16 appearances for Brighton, Burnett was one of four players who followed Frank Scott-Walford from Brighton & Hove Albion to Leeds City in May 1908, where he scored 3 times in 24 appearances through to October 1909 before retiring at the end of the season.
