Description

Sheffield born inside forward Harry Buddery had started at Denaby United in 1911 before moving to Doncaster Rovers a year later, for whom he played until the suspension of football due to World War One. Joining Portsmouth in the summer of 1913, he was a member of the team that won The Southern League Championship in 1919-20, and also played 17 games in Portsmouth’s inaugural Football League season in 1920-21.

However he had lost his place in the Pompey team by September 1922 and in November was transferred to Southend United after 31 goals in 96 appearances including Southern League, Football League and FA Cup games for the club. He played 27 matches for Southend that season, scoring once, before moving to Rotherham Town, who as yet were not a League club until they merged with County to form United a couple of years later, by when Harry had retired.
