Stakeford, Northumberland born outside right Charlie Brown was picked up by Southampton from playing with his local club, Stakeford United, and made his Football League debut in September 1920 against Gillingham. Playing with the likes of Bill Rawlings, Arthur Dominy and Fred Titmuss, in his second season they won the Third Division (South) Championship with Brown playing 20 games. He played two seasons in the Second Division before he moved to Queen’s Park Rangers in the summer of 1924 after 8 goals in 90 appearances for Southampton. At Rangers he played another two seasons, making 73 appearances and scoring 3 times, before joining Western League club Poole in 1926.
