Description
Montrose, Angus born right back George Bowman began his football career with Montrose and at 19 years old became an unlikely choice to play for Scotland when he lined up in a 3-2 win over Ireland at The Solitude Ground, Belfast in March 1892, the Scotland team featuring both Bowman and Montrose team mate Sandy Keillor. He later moved from Montrose to Third Lanark, where he played at centre half. One of his last matches for Thirds was a Glasgow Charity Cup Final against Rangers at Hampden Park in May 1897 as Rangers ran out easy winners, but he was soon thereafter transferred back to Links Park in the summer of 1897, playing out his career with Montrose.
