Bromsgrove born inside forward Hubert Bourne played for Manchester United during World War One during wartime football and after the War had ended joined First Division Aston Villa, making his Football League debut against Derby County in September 1919, scoring in a 2-2 draw, and also scoring two weeks later at Liverpool. Despite two goals in 6 appearances in his debut season opportunities were limited at Villa and he only made one further appearance against Blackburn Rovers in April 1921 before retirement from the professional game, subsequently joining the coaching staff at Aston Villa.
