High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire born inside forward Reg Boreham had a brief spell as an amateur at Notts County joining them in the summer of 1920, playing 3 times for The Magpies in a month after making his League debut against Bristol City at the beginning of September. But the move clearly didn’t work out and he returned to Spartan League club Wycombe Wanderers where he’d been playing since 1919.

In June 1921 he moved to First Division Arsenal still as an amateur, making his Arsenal debut against Bolton Wanderers that December, a month after he won the first of two England Amateur international caps in 3 months in a victory over Ireland at Filbert Street, Leicester, and for two seasons he was a regular in the first team, scoring 10 goals in 1921-22 and 8 goals in 1922-23. Boreham lost his place the following season, playing only twice more, and after two seasons out of the frame had his contract cancelled in May 1925 after 53 Arsenal appearances in total.

In the photo, Boreham is standing second right, the other players being (l-r) Alex Graham, Frank Bradshaw, Bobby Turnbull and Tom Whittaker.
