Butt Lane, Kidsgrove, Staffordshire born wing half Frank Bentley played junior football for Butt Lane in 1906 before joining Second Division Stoke, making his debut in an FA Cup tie at Gainsborough Trinity in February 1908, scoring in a 2-2 draw. Having made 5 appearances for Stoke (of which only one was a Football League match against West Bromwich Albion at The Victoria Ground on 14th March 1908), scoring once, he joined First Division Tottenham Hotspur, making 41 appearances over three seasons for them through to April 1912, when he made his only appearance of the 1911-12 season in a home draw against Manchester United, soon after which he was allowed to join Southern League Brentford, where he finished his career before the First World War.
