Description

Monk Bretton, near Barnsley born left back Arthur Beachill began his football career in local works football before joining Rotherham County in 1924. However he didn’t make the grade at Rotherham County and joined Frickley Colliery in 1925 without making a first team appearance at County, but after moving to Third Division (North) Stoke City in 1926 he made his Football League debut against Halifax Town in May 1927 at the end of Stoke’s Championship winning season. The next three seasons saw limited opportunities but he was an ever present in 1931-32 as The Potters missed out on promotion finishing 3rd in the Second Division, and he only missed 6 matches the following season as Stoke won the Second Division Championship.

He had a single season in the top flight but lost his first team place after the Christmas period in 1933, and he was allowed to join Millwall in the summer of 1934 after 136 games for The Potters, but his year in London saw him play only 15 first team games for The Lions before he retired from professional football in 1935.
