Wandsworth, London born right half Tom Baxter began his senior career after the First World War at First Division club Chelsea, joining them after leaving the Army in 1919, making his Football League debut in a 1-0 defeat to Burnley at Stamford Bridge towards the end of September 1919. It proved to be his only first team appearance for The Pensioners, and he joined newly elected Third Division club Gillingham in May 1920. He played in The Gills’ inaugural Football League fixture, a 1-1 draw against Southampton at Priestfield, and made 23 appearances for them during 1920-21 as Gillingham struggled towards the bottom of the division, before finishing with professional football, his career thereafter is uncertain.
