Dudley born full back Bert Baverstock played for Netherton St James  and Brierley Hill Alliance before signing for First Division Bolton Wanderers in 1905, for whom he made his Football League debut at Notts County that September immediately establishing himself as a regular starter. Although they were relegated in 1908 Baverstock missed one game as Bolton won the 1909 Second Division Championship and was part of their team promoted as runners up in 1911 after another relegation. He played both sides of the First World War for Bolton, scoring 4 goals in 388 games for The Trotters before moving to Blackpool in January 1922, where he scored once in 18 appearances for The Seasiders before retirement.
