Described as an “Ashton Gate stalwart”, Dick Batten was Bristol City’s first professional trainer, working under Sam Hollis, the Bristol City manager and was in charge of the team through the most successful period of the club’s history, as Bristol City won the Second Division Championship in 1906, finished runners up in the League Championship in 1907 and made their only FA Cup Final in 1909.
