Description

Weldon, Northamptonshire born centre half Alf Barratt began his football career with Weldon and joined Kettering Town in 1937 from where he signed for Northampton Town in July 1938, making his Football League debut at Southend United in April 1939, his only appearance before the intervention of the Second World War. After the Second World War he joined Second Division Leicester City in September 1946 but made only 4 appearances over the next four seasons before joining Grimsby Town in July 1950.

At Blundell Park he played 25 times during their 1950-51 campaign, which ended with relegation from the Second Division, and he left to join Southport in July 1951. He was a virtual ever present for the next four seasons at Haig Avenue, missing only 4 matches, but he lost his place in October 1955 and played only 3 more matches before his retirement, having played 209 matches for The Sandgrounders without ever scoring.
