Description

Felling, County Durham born left half Jack Barber began his football career with Washington United in 1912 and played for Northern Alliance club Seaton Delaval in 1913 before joining Burnley in August 1914 as the First World War was breaking out. He was on Burnley’s books during 1914-15 but didn’t make their first eleven, although he was part of their team that won the East Lancashire Charity Cup, playing at centre forward as they beat Blackburn Rovers 4-1 in the Final, and during the War he played for Lancaster United during 1917-18.

After the War had concluded he joined North Eastern League club Ashington in July 1919 and played for them when they joined The Football League as founder members of the Third Division (North) in the summer of 1921, Barber playing left half in their inaugural League fixture, a 1-0 win over Grimsby Town that August. He scored 3 times in 23 appearances as Ashington finished tenth, but at the end of the season he joined North Eastern League club Workington.
