Dumbarton born centre half Charles Ballantyne began his senior football career with hometown club Dumbarton making his Scottish League debut in a 2-0 home defeat to Hibernian in November 1931. He soon established himself as The Sons’ regular centre half and over his four seasons at Boghead Park he scored 13 goals in 117 appearances. He joined Clyde in the summer of 1935 but struggled to make an impression at Shawfield, being released in 1937 having made only 8 first team appearances.
