Description

Derby born right half Jimmy Bagshaw played junior football for Graham Street Primitives in 1904 and Fletchers Athletic in 1905 before he joined First Division Derby County in October 1906, his Football League debut coming at Sunderland a month later. While they were relegated in his first season at the club, he was a mainstay in the 1911-12 team that won the Second Division Championship. He won the Second Division Championship again in 1915 after Derby’s relegation the season before.

Although he lost 4 seasons of his playing career to The First World War he still managed 10 seasons at The Baseball Ground either side of the War, and 240 appearances, scoring 6 goals. He played an unofficial “Victory” International for England in 1919 and won a full England cap that October against Ireland in Belfast. Having guested for Notts County during the War he joined them in February 1920 but could not help them avoid relegation from the First Division, staying a further season at Meadow Lane where his first team appearances were increasingly rare.

Watford paid £200 for him, already aged 33, in May 1921 after 24 games for The Magpies, and he played 14 games for The Hornets, mainly at centre half, before moving back to the East Midlands with non league Ilkeston United the following August before joining Grantham in July 1924, whom he captained to Central Alliance victory, finally returning to Ilkeston United in May 1926.
