Paisley, Renfrewshire born inside left Tommy Ashe began his football career with Mossvale Strollers from where he signed for hometown Scottish League club St Mirren in November 1937. By the time of the outbreak of the Second World War in September 1939, Ashe had scored 3 goals in 39 appearances for The Buddies, and he continued to play wartime football for them, as well as for Third Lanark, until being released from his St Mirren contract in December 1944. He joined Dumbarton where he converted to left half “where he played with unlimited success” it was said of him. Ashe scored 4 goals in 44 appearances for The Sons through to 1948 before retiring from professional football.
