Description

Pollokshaws, Glasgow born inside forward Billy Agnew began his football career with junior club Pollok in 1917 and joined Scottish League Ayr United in 1918 before joining Falkirk later the same year. While at Brockville Park he had a spell on loan at Bo’Ness in 1920 before heading south to join Second Division Port Vale in September 1921, making his Football League debut the same month at West Ham United. He scored 6 goals in 43 appearances for The Valiants over the next two seasons but returned to Scotland to join Arthurlie in 1923 having been released by Vale due to a persistent knee injury, before returning to Football League action to join Third Division (South) Luton Town in the summer of 1925. After 8 goals for The Hatters in 36 appearances, he crossed the Atlantic to join the nascent North American Soccer League in 1927, where he scored 7 goals in 24 appearances with Providence Clamdiggers during 1927-28 before retiring from the professional game.
