Mold born full back Bill Goodwin joined Wrexham from Holywell United in 1912, and signed for First Division Oldham Athletic in July 1913, making his Football League debut at Bolton Wanderers in January 1915. He had made only 4 appearances before peacetime football was suspended due to World War One, but he resumed with Oldham in 1919, becoming a regular member of their first eleven. He joined Division 3 (North) Crewe Alexandra in May 1921 after 40 appearances for The Latics, and made 157 appearances over 4 seasons, scoring twice before rejoining Oldham Athletic in June 1925, where he only made 3 more appearances, by now in the Second Division, before joining non league Congleton Town later in 1925. He subsequently also played for Mossley in 1928.
